The BOOKS CHECKUP

A Professional bookkeeping review

Is your bookkeeping actually accurate — or does it just look that way?

A review by a trained bookkeeper with a video walkthrough of your file plus written findings.

No judgment. No ongoing commitment.

Just a clear picture of what's in your books — and exactly what to do about it.

Three tiers · From $147 + GST/HST · 10 spots/month

Bookkeeping software tells you the numbers are there. It can't tell you if they're right.

Your Xero or QuickBooks file might show everything reconciled. Every transaction coded. Every month ticked off.

And it might still be wrong.

Not obviously wrong. Just quietly off — in ways that compound over time and surface at the worst moments: at tax time, when you need a loan, when you're trying to understand why the numbers don't match what you expected.

Software categorizes what you tell it to. It reconciles what you give it. It has no idea whether your chart of accounts was set up correctly, whether your GST has been tracked on the right amounts, or whether an account has been used in a way that made sense two years ago but wouldn't hold up today.

That gap — between "looks right" and "is right" — is exactly what a trained bookkeeper catches.

This review is for you if:

  • You've been managing your own books & want a trained eye to check your work
  • You're using AI tools for your bookkeeping and want to confirm the foundation is solid before handing more over
  • You've had a bookkeeper for years but no one has ever done an independent review of your file
  • You're heading into year-end and you'd rather know what your accountant will find before they find it
  • You caught up a backlog of bookkeeping yourself and want to know if the catch-up was done correctly

Here's what we look at

  • Chart of accounts
Are your accounts set up correctly for how your business actually operates?
  • Reconciliation accuracy
Are your bank and credit card accounts reconciling to the right things?
  • Coding consistency
Are transactions categorized in ways that hold up over time and under scrutiny?
  • GST / HST
Are you tracking and reporting sales tax on the right amounts?
  • Anything Unusual
Duplicate entries, clearing accounts with unexpected balances, anomalies that shouldn't be there

After the review, you get two things: a recorded video walkthrough of your file, where a bookkeeper talks you through what they found — and a clear written summary you can keep: what's working, what needs attention, and what to do about it.

About Kelly Christian

I've been working with small business owners on their finances for over 20 years through my cloud based bookkeeping & tax company KC&Company.

The thing I hear most, after someone books a review, is some version of: "I've been meaning to do this for a while."

The hesitation is usually that they're worried about what we'll find. I understand that completely. But there is no version of your books that would surprise us or make us think less of you. We've seen everything — and we've helped sort it all out.

What the check-up gives you is certainty. Certainty is almost always better than the quiet worry & wondering.

Questions

Is this the same as hiring a bookkeeper?

No. The check-up is a one-time review — we look at what's in your books and tell you what we find. Some clients use it as a standalone check. Others use it as a starting point before getting ongoing help. That's entirely your call.

What if my books are a mess?

We've seen everything. The check-up is designed for situations where you're not sure how things look — that's the whole point. There is no version of your books that would surprise us or make us judge you.

What software do I need?

Xero, QuickBooks, a spreadsheet, or nothing at all — we have a tier for each situation. If you're not sure which one fits, email team@kcandcompany.ca before booking.

What do I actually get at the end?

Two things: a recorded video walkthrough of your file (about 15–20 minutes) where a bookkeeper talks you through exactly what they found, and a written summary you can keep — what's accurate, what needs attention, and what to do about it. Delivered within 7–10 business days of receiving access to your file.

Can you fix what you find?

The check-up is a review, not a cleanup. If we find things that need fixing, we'll tell you exactly what they are. If you'd like us to handle the corrections, we can talk about what that looks like — it's not automatic or required.

How many spots are available?

We accept a maximum of 10 check-ups per month to make sure every file gets proper attention. Once a month's spots are full, the next opening is the following month.

Ready to know where your books actually stand?

One flat fee. No ongoing commitment.

A trained bookkeeper reviews your file, walks you through it on video and tells you exactly what they find.

All prices are in CAD - GST/HST will be added at checkout
